Spring has sprung and the planting will begin this week with Rutland Blooms.

The group’s spring planting will start Wednesday and continue Thursday. Those interested in planting Wednesday should meet at Main Street Park at 8 a.m. and on Thursday at 77 Grove St. at 8 a.m.

All are welcome to help and are asked to come prepared with appropriate footwear, gloves, sunscreen and a rake or shovel, if possible, Steve Costello of Green Mountain Power said in an email.

Around 150 trees will be planted, most of them flowering crabapple trees, Costello said.

City Forester Dave Schneider will give a planting tutorial and safety presentation before planting begins, Costello said.

Rutland Blooms is a community beautification project with a goal of planting millions of flowers citywide, according to the group’s website.
