Press Release

Rutland City Police Department’s 2015 Park, Walk and Talk Initiative
Acting Chief of Police David J. Covell
March 25, 2015

Now that Spring is here, the Rutland City Police Department has started their Park, Walk and Talk initiative for 2015. The Park, Walk and Talk initiative is designed to allow Officers time to walk designated neighborhoods in the city and make contact with the residents. The neighborhoods the initiative will occur in, will rotate throughout the year and/or will be adjusted accordingly, based on Rut-Stat mapping and call for service data.

Now through the end of April, the Park, Walk and Talk initiative will be focusing on the below streets:
Summer Street
Maple Street
Pine Street
State Street
Baxter Street
Cleveland Avenue
Park Avenue
Harrison Street
Library Avenue
Lower Church Street between West and Library
Crescent Street between Lincoln and Grove
Seabury Street

The goals of the Park, Walk and Talk initiative are the following:
• Allow the Officers to better get to know the residents in our community.
• To listen to and address any concerns/issues that may be affecting the neighborhood.
• Answer any questions residents may have about the Rutland City Police Department and our current public safety strategies.
• Provide higher visibility in neighborhoods and at the times where we are experiencing an increase in call for services.

Acting Chief of Police David Covell advised the following:
“Our Officers are looking forward to participating in this community policing effort. This initiative will afford our Officers a great opportunity to get to know and interact with the residents in our neighborhoods, improve communication and address their concerns.

I would encourage all residents to take advantage of this initiative and to come out and talk with our Officers when they see them out walking in their neighborhoods. Continuing to improve the quality of life in our neighborhoods and having an open line of communication with the community we serve, are important components of our overall public safety strategy.”
